Do you like the taste of the ‘tea eggs’ 五香茶葉蛋 they sell in 7-11 convenience stores in Taiwan? Then you must try and make these at home – perfect, delicious and 100% natural ingredients. Joanne was so happy with these eggs and the taste – she also said that our kitchen had that smell of 7-11 around the steamed and boiled food area!

A perfect 7-11 taste tea egg!
The ingredients;
- 15 eggs
- 2 tbsp sugar
- half a bowl of soy sauce
- 1tbsp of oolong tea
- 2 English tea bags
- 3 bay leaf
- a spice bag
- a cinnamon stick
- 3 star anise
- a little salt
As usual if you can’t find a Taiwanese style spice bag then use: 5 star anise, a teaspoon of red pepper corns, half a teaspoon of cloves, a cinnamon stick, three bayleaves, three cardamom pods – all in a cotton bag. Yes, some of those ingredients are already in the recipe but that’s how to make this spice bag!
Joanne has recorded a video showing you how to make this popular Taiwan’s 7-11 snack at home, wherever you may live in the world! Please take a look below, it’s pretty easy.
