Lou Rou Fan 滷肉飯 is one of the most popular recipes on TaiwanDuck.com. However the video I made last time to accompany the web page was in my own mix of Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese. I didn’t think this humble dish would be so popular with English speakers.


After many many requests for TaiwanDuck to remake the video in English, this has now been done! My daughter Kylie presents below a simple and quick way to make Lou Rou Fan 滷肉飯, this time using pork mince to speed along your preparation. It tastes divine, just like my previous version, so don’t worry!

Lou Rou Fan 滷肉飯 (簡易版) easy method ingredients

  • 700g pork mincelou-rou-fan-ingredients
  • boiled eggs
  • 1/2 cup rice wine
  • 1/2 cup of light soy
  • 1/3 cup of dark soy
  • 2tbsp garlic oil
  • 1tbsp oyster sauce
  • chinese mushrooms
  • 5x star anise
  • 1tbsp white pepper
  • a pinch of 5 spice
  • 1/2 tsp fish powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt, 2tbsp sugar
  • 2 bunches of coriander
  • 1 spring onion
  • dried onion powder
