Here is an all-time Taiwanese favourite drink that is well known all around the world! In this video Joanne shows you how to make authentic Taiwanese Bubble Milk Tea 珍珠奶茶 (also known by some as Pearl Milk Tea) – just like the one you buy in Taiwan – but in your own home.
The ingredients are simple, the method isn’t that tricky either. The only slightly difficult task is probably finding the tapioca pearls and cooking them correctly. But many Chinese supermarkets sell the ‘pearls’ and they only need boiling in water.
- boiled tapioca pearls
- breakfast tea
- milk powder (coffee mate)
- cocktail shaker
To prepare the drink-ready tapioca pearls you get 1 cup of tapioca ‘bubbles’ plus 5 cups of water. When the water is boiling add in the tapioca pearls. Cover and boil for 30 mins. Turn off the heat and leave the pan for 20 minutes. Next you rinse the ‘bubbles/pearls’ with ice cold water and put them in a bowl to use in the drink. Use them the same day or they might go off and/or start to stick together!
You need to make the sugar water sugar simply because it’s hard to dissolve sugar in cold tea. Also different people will want more or less sweet tea so you will put in more or less sugar water to your finished drink.
